Alberta Hockey Program - $236.25

The Beiseker School Hockey Canada Skills Academy is an athlete-centered program aimed at developing the whole athlete.  Our goal is to enhance a player's confidence, individual playing skills, self-esteem and leadership while giving them opportunities in both academics and athletics beyond the regular classroom.  Our role is to provide additional training for hockey players, male or female, who wish to improve on their hockey skills.  These opportunities are supplementary to the physical and tactical aspects of hockey taught with their regular minor hockey club team.  Students enrolled in the Academy will have regularly scheduled ice times and dryland will be within their timetable, September to January, while earning credit for Physical Education.

Art 7/8/9 - $15.75

Students will learn, practice and build on the foundational drawing skills of seeing lines, shapes, and edges, representing light and shadow to create forms and dimension, and exploring proportion and perspective.  Students will have opportunities to explore different forms of art making in various units, such as, but not limited to, 3-dimensional forms, printmaking, painting, cartooning and collaborative tasks.

Art 10/20 (3 credits) - $36.75 & Art 10/20/30 (5 credits) - $42

In this course, students build technical skills while they study and practice various elements and principles of design.  Students work on conceptual projects that are inspired by others, yet driven by their own original ideas, and work collaboratively on group art projects.  Throughout the course, students gain confidence to take risks, explore unfamiliar ideas and techniques, and critique themselves and their peers.

Construction 7/8 - $15.75

This CTS course offers all students important learning opportunities in the field of woodworking. The program offered here is a basic level and is a requirement for future levels. It is geared for maximum student knowledge in planning, materials, tools, work habits, safety, and the field of woodworking as a whole.

This CTS course offers all students important learning opportunities in the field of woodworking. The program offered here is a basic level (with options for previous experience in shop classes) and is a requirement for future levels. It is geared for maximum student knowledge in planning, materials, tools, work habits, safety, and the field of woodworking as a whole.

Construction - $31.50

These CTS courses offer all students important learning opportunities in the field of construction.  This modularized program is broken into introductory, intermediate and advanced levels and each level is a requirement for the next level.  It is geared for maximum student knowledge in planning, materials, tools, work habits, safety, and the field of construction - furniture making, as a whole.

Cosmetology - $36.75

Cosmetology is a module-based course focusing on personal and professional grooming practices.  Students develop skills relating to skin care, body care and mind and body wellness.  Students then use these skills to develop a positive self -esteem and maintain a strong self- image.  In addition, students are introduced to the professional world of cosmetology (hair styling) and esthetics (nail care, skin care and make up) and cover the basic skills associated with these professions.

Drama 7/8/9 - $10.50

In this course, students are introduced to, study, and practice many skills in the dramatic arts.  Through games and individual and collaborative tasks, students gain confidence to create original pieces, perform in front of authentic audiences, and critique themselves and their peers.

Fashion Studies 10 - $42.00

For students interested in clothes, plushies, accessories, knitting or anything made of fabric. Students are introduced to the fundamentals, which includes sewing by hand and with a machine, to produce usable, pattern-based products. Students will use basic sewing skills and techniques to construct a personal accessory. Advanced students will have the opportunity to plan and design original patterns for final products of their own making. Yes, there will be frogs and pillows.

Foods 7/8/9 - $32.76

At the introductory level, students learn the factors related to safety and sanitation, as well as basic competencies in fundamental cooking and baking skills such as planning, preparation and evaluating basic foods and recipes.  They will also practice personal management skills.

Foods 10/20/30 (3 credits) - $73.50

Students continue to examine the role of food, looking beyond consumption to production, visual appreciation, nutrition, meal planning, economics and preparation.  They will also continue to perfect basic competencies and improve safe and sanitary practices.

Foods 20/30 (5 credits) - $126.00

Through intermediate and advanced level modules, students continue to examine the role of food, looking beyond consumption to production, visual appreciation, nutrition, meal planning, economics and preparation.  They will also continue to perfect basic competencies and improve safe and sanitary practices.

French (Gr. 7-9) & 10/20/30 (No fee)

The purpose of this course is to expose students to the fundamentals of the French language and the diversity of culture throughout all of the French-speaking world. The development of four language skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) will be undertaken with the emphasis on communication. By the end of the course, each student should be able to understand and respond to level-appropriate and authentic French-language multimedia resources. Our class activities include virtual cultural tours, popular music, TV shows and/or film studies. Through the course they should also develop their appreciation of the cultural diversity of “La Francophonie”.

General Psychology 20 (3 credits) (No fee)

The objectives of the 3-credit courses in Psychology are designed to develop within the student the skills and understanding to make it possible for more effective living in our complex environment. The student’s attention will focus on the scientific approach to understanding human behaviour so that he or she may appreciate more fully the reasons that underlie one’s own acts and those of one’s fellows. Some topics covered in the class include: History of Psychology and Career Opportunities in Psychology, Learning Theory (Operant and Classical Conditioning principles), Emotional Problems in Adolescence (including dealing with frustration and conflict), the Process of Thinking and Learning Efficiently, and Behavior Disorders and their treatment. In this class, students will experience the basic elements related to the field of psychology; psychology is an applied science studying the mind, individual, and group behavior. As such, skill development in the areas of individual self-awareness and reflection responses, group work, research projects, and applied learning (e.g., mental health awareness project) will occur.

Mechanics $26.25

These CTS courses offer all students important learning opportunities in the field of mechanics and fabrication - welding.  This modularized program offered here is an introductory level for mechanics, whereas fabrication leads to both the intermediate and advanced levels.  It is geared for maximum student knowledge in planning, materials, tools, work habits, safety, and the field of mechanics and fabrication as a whole.

Media/Media Literacy - $10.50

Learn the fundamentals of animation, filming, special effects, digital art/design, and interior/exterior design. This is a very hands-on course. Advanced level students may pick a specific stream (ex/film studies) to focus on. There are many opportunities for self-exploration, experimentation and to exercise the creative side.

Outdoor Education 7 & 8 - $63.00

Outdoor Education gives students the chance to learn and experience valuable skills and attitudes about the environment. This course covers four main components which include learning about plants and animals of Alberta, basic skills to camp and survive in the wilderness, leadership and technical skills and an appreciation for nature and environmental ethic. This course will require students to take part in activities both in and out of the classroom. Scheduled field trips: 1. Additional field trips may be planned at an additional cost.

The aim of the Physical Education 20/30 program is to enable individuals to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to lead an active, healthy lifestyle.  The program emphasizes active living with a focus on physical activity that is valued and integrated into daily life.  Scheduled field trips: curling, mountain biking.

Photography - $31.50

From soup to nuts, find out how to get a camera to co-operate with you to get the pictures you imagined out onto a piece of paper for all to enjoy.  Get to know terms like ISO, shutter speeds, aperture, law of thirds and a whole bunch of other words.  See how they all interact to give a great final product, your photograph.

Robotics - $42.00

Running and scurry about the floor, ignoring most carbon-based life forms.  If you have an interest about how and why these mysterious little mechanical marvels operate, this may be the course for you.  Learn about what robotics are, what they are being used for, learn basic electronics in the basics of design and construction, and then learn to program them to get them to do what YOU want them to do, rather than let them decide for themselves.

Sports Medicine - $15.75

The purpose of this course is to build knowledge on all the fields related to Athletic Training. This courses design is to prepare prospective practitioners with a basic understanding in the area of sport injuries, first aid care, training room management, and career opportunities related to sports medicine, nutrition, anatomy and physiology. This course offers a logical beginning for those interested in such fields as sports medicine, physiotherapy, massage therapy, nursing, physical education or emergency medical technician.

Sports Performance (10-12) - $15.75

The purpose of this course is to build knowledge on all the fields related to Sport Training.  Students will be expected to demonstrate outcomes as they relate to the study of current training principles, performance enhancement, performance evaluation, sport studies and personal development through participation in sport.  Students will study and use, in a practical curriculum, concepts involving the knowledge, attitudes and skills necessary to Sport Training and Conditioning.

Video Game Design (10/20/30) - $21.00

Ever wanted to create a video game, but didn't know where to start? Deconstruct, explore, design and create compelling video games. Start with looking at existing video games and work your way up to designing an original game of your own choosing. At the 30 level, 3D programs are available to rig characters and create interactive environments like the pros. Course fee covers clay and any additional modelling items needed to create maquettes and/or backdrops during their projects.
