Assignments: September 4 - October 19, 2012

Popcorn Study:

  • -White value study of popcorn on black paper; students will be graded on the use of tonal variation, and on enlarging the scale (From little popcorn "still life" to larger representation on paper)
  • -From Popcorn to another recognizable image: Students trace the shape and size of their white popcorn drawings and transfer onto another page.  They then transform it to something else that is recognizable, and color with pencil crayon and water color pencils.

 

Tree Study:

  • -Study of watercolor wash to create form and value, mixed with pen and charcoal (organic lines)
  • -Step 1: Sketches of trees from life (outside) in sketchbook
  • -Step 2: Brainstorm words and pictures of what a tree can represent; wash technique to create form and volume within organic lines, mixed with other media such as pen and charcoal.
  • -Step 3: Pen, ink, and watercolor piece combining elements of design and symbolic images
